Yayoi Kusama is one of the most unique and significant living modern artists. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, she overcame racism, sexism, and mental illness to become the top-selling female artist in the world. Her work is brilliant and beautiful, and this is captured in Heather Lenz’s stunning portrait. 

Kusama has lived since the 1970s in a mental-health facility in Japan, and the film reveals the connection between her personal struggles and her art, which remains her primary method for working through her mental-health challenges. The result is an invaluable record of one of the world’s great creative geniuses.

Their crimes fall under the jurisdiction of a heavily pregnant rural Minnesota police chief, Marge Gunderson (McDormand), who makes no small effort to solve the case.

When they are discovered by Wyatt, they give in and become big rock stars. But will they find out that they are just pawns for the record industry or will fame take them over?

Next up in our Off the CUFF Series is NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE! We're big fans of this film and filmmaking team, and we couldn't resist being part of the upcoming theatrical run. Whether you are a fan of the cult comedy series, which the film is based on, love the work of CUFF alum Matt Johnson (BLACKBERRY, 2023), who directed the film and co-created the series, or are learning about this all for the first time, this new Canadian release will be a ton of fun with an audience!

Join us on Feb 9 for a special Off the CUFF advance screening of NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE, ahead of the theatrical release on Feb 13.
